Southfield High School for the
Arts & Technology 24675 Lahser
Road Southfield, MI 48033.
This HBCU College Fair is
presented by Closing the Gap
Detroit and Detroit HBCU Network
in partnership with Southfield
Public Schools. The event is
free, open to the public.

- The
success
of the
HBCU Day
event
sparked
an
endeavor
of
expansion
to
broaden
the
exposure
by
bringing
full-scale,
HBCU
(Historically
Black
Colleges
and
Universities)
related
college
resources
to
college
bound
students
seeking
more
information
with the
Destination
HBCU
Experience
Initiative
&
College
Fair.
The
2019
Destination
HBCU
Experience
Initiative
&
College
Fair
will
take

This
HBCU
College
Fair is
presented
by
Closing
the Gap
Detroit
and
Detroit
HBCU
Network
in
partnership
with
Southfield
Public
Schools.
The
event is
free,
open to
the
public.
The HBCU
College
Fair
will
offer
full-scale
college
accessible
information
ranging
from
college
admissions,
breakout
sessions,
collegiate
experience
to
alumni
networking.
There
will
also be
panel
discussions
that
focus on
the
unique
HBCU
experience
from the
black
perspective,
how to
pay for
your
education
and
more.

The

"Events
such as
this
have the
potential
to
change
lives
for
students,
and we
are
committed
to doing
everything
we can
to
connect
their
unlimited
talents
with
individuals
and
organizations
offering
pathways
to
rewarding
careers,

Southfield

School

multitude
of
options
available
to

More
than one
year
ago,
Detroit
native
Jennifer
Smith, a
noted
student
education
advocate
and
college
success
coach
and
founder
of
Closing
the
Gap-Detroit
(an
organization
that
assists
college-bound
students
will
resources
pertaining
to
college
access)
hosted
her
first
HBCU
Senior
Day.
This
event
hosted
nearly
500
Detroit-area,
college-bound
seniors
the
opportunity
to gain
firsthand
knowledge
about
the HBCU
collegiate
experience.
As a
proud
HBUC
alumna,
I know
firsthand
the
enormous
impact
my
education
and
wholistic
support
system
found at
my
school
and many
other
schools
within
this
network;
so I
feel
compelled
to share
this
with our
local
area
high
school
freshmen,
sophomore,
junior
and
senior
students,
said

My
purpose
lies in
making
sure
that
students
involved
with
Closing
the Gap
Detroit,
Detroit
Public
Schools,
Southfield
Public
Schools
and
beyond
who
stand to
benefit
from the
kind of
education
that was
afforded
to me
get to
college,
through
college;
we
believe
this
college
fair is
a
worthwhile
jump
start
to a
fulfilling
educational
destiny
for the
attendees.
